Data Engineer (Petal Search) Full Time

• Petal Search has accumulated 30 million users in 50+ different languages, including English, Chinese, Turkish, Arabic, and many others.
• It is launched in 170+ different countries.
• Our vision is to achieve “everything is searchable” and to be “one of the three in the world” as Petal Search.
• Petal search supplies general searches like web, news, images, music, video, voice, and knowledge, as well as vertical searches like apps, shopping, travel, local services, and life assistance.
• Petal Search has been developed in Huawei Turkey R&D Center, one of Huawei’s largest R&D investments.
• Our team includes Marketing, Product Managers, Development and AI Research, User Growth and Behavior Insights, Ecosystem, Evaluation, and Data Analytics teams.

Responsibilities:

• Utilize code (Python, R, Scala, etc.) for analyzing data and building statistical models to provide insights, metrics, and explain variance.
• Build knowledge graphs and services for supporting information retrieval processes.
• Implement best practice data quality assurance mechanisms.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of work experience with Data Modeling and Data Architecture with big data.
• 3+ years of coding experience in at least one modern programming language (Python preferred, R, Ruby, Scala, Java, etc.).
• Extensive knowledge and practical experience in machine learning, statistics, deep learning, recommendation systems, information retrieval, data preparation, and crawling.
• Basic NLP skills (word embedding, language models) to intermediate between end user and data.
• Basic NoSQL knowledge, preferred Elasticsearch.
• Basic Linux-based OS operations knowledge.
• Understanding of search-related business scenarios and core technologies.
• Passion for sharing what you’ve learned and confidence to ask for help.
• Fluency in both written and spoken English.
• Mentorship or leadership experience with a 5+ member team is a plus.
• SQL knowledge is a plus.
• Eagerness to learn new technologies is a big plus.
