Tidal Basin seeks a Federal Architectural Historian to join its Disaster Recovery Cadre supporting FEMA’s Public Assistance Program. This role involves protecting historic architecture and ensuring recovery efforts comply with historic preservation laws. The position requires up to 100% deployment and may include remote work depending on FEMA’s needs.
Identify Environmental and Historical Preservation (EHP) issues and concerns.
Attend meetings with applicants and stakeholders.
Conduct site inspections to determine historical significance of facilities.
Collaborate with Public Assistance staff to gather necessary project data.
Review Public Assistance project scopes for EHP compliance.
Recommend actions to meet EHP laws and guidelines.
Document findings and compliance conditions in Grants Manager.
Analyze architectural or engineering reports and as-built plans.
Prepare detailed analytical reports.
Validate applicant-provided scopes of work, including codes and standards.
Familiarity with applicable preservation laws and guidance.
Ability to learn FEMA Public Assistance National Model and PAPPG.
Training in Grants Manager, FEMA systems, and GoogleEarth Pro (provided).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and TEAMS.
Ability to use laptops, cell phones, and time/expense tracking systems.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to follow instructions and work in challenging conditions.
Ability to collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Graduate or Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural History, Art History, Historic Preservation, or related field.
2+ years of experience in American Architectural History research, teaching, or restoration architecture.
Experience conducting historical site inspections and creating preservation reports.
Required FEMA training: security training, Grants Manager, and PDMG (E/L 0869).
Minimum 5 years of related work experience for Mid-Level; 10 years for Senior-Level.
Travel expenses covered for deployments of up to a year.
Hotel lodging provided as needed during deployments.
