Tidal Basin is hiring Civil or Structural Engineers to join their Federal Disaster Recovery Cadre in support of FEMA’s Public Assistance Program. This temporary, travel-intensive role assists with the rebuilding of disaster-affected communities across the United States.
Deploy as Site Inspector to assess damage to permanent facilities and document findings.
Complete Site Inspection Reports (SIR) and capture Essential Elements of Information (EEI).
Use measuring tools such as tape measures, wheels, and laser levels.
Deploy as a PDMG to manage stakeholders, facilitate meetings, and ensure program compliance.
Translate FEMA PA policies and procedures to non-technical audiences.
Serve as Technical Specialist to provide engineering expertise to FEMA efforts.
Act as Cost Estimator for rebuilding and replacement cost assessments.
Serve as 406 Mitigation Specialist to recommend mitigation strategies, estimate costs, and write proposals (requires prior mitigation experience).
Skilled in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and TEAMS.
Capable with measuring tools including tape measures, measuring wheels, and laser levels.
Proficient with laptop and cell phone.
Ability to learn FEMA systems including Grants Manager, GoogleEarth Pro, and others.
Ability to create a Firmette or Flood Map.
Able to use time and expense tracking systems.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong ability to follow directions and work in challenging environments.
Able to work well with others.
Must pass FEMA security, Grants Manager, and PDMG or Site Inspector training.
Mid-Level: 5+ years of experience, undergraduate degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, P.E. license preferred but not required, FEMA PA experience preferred.
Senior-Level: 10+ years of experience, undergraduate or higher degree in Civil Engineering, P.E. license required, FEMA PA deployment experience preferred.

Submission to FEMA contingent on Prime and FEMA approval.
Paid travel expenses for deployment.
Lodging may be provided for up to one year.
Work locations vary from disaster sites to home or FEMA offices.
