Tidal Basin is hiring a Federal Electrical Engineer to join its On-Call Cadre supporting FEMA’s Public Assistance Program. This temporary, travel-intensive position aids communities after disasters by providing technical expertise in engineering assessments and cost estimation. Deployment to disaster zones and extended travel are required.
Deploy to disaster sites and work from various locations including hotel rooms or FEMA offices.
Serve in roles such as Site Inspector, Program Delivery Manager (PDMG), Technical Specialist, or Cost Estimator.
Site Inspectors assess permanent facilities damaged by disasters, document damage, and write reports.
Use tools like tape measures, measuring wheels, and laser levels for assessments.
Review architectural and engineering reports and create Site Inspection Reports and Damage Descriptions.
Act as an expert witness on FEMA’s behalf during arbitration, if needed.
PDMGs manage diverse stakeholders, explain FEMA policies, and ensure compliance.
Technical Specialists provide specialized engineering expertise.
Cost Estimators calculate the cost to rebuild or replace damaged infrastructure.
Must supply personal safety gear and measuring tools.
Travel and deployment for up to 100% of the time for a minimum of 6 to 12 months.
Travel expenses are covered.
Mid-Level: 5+ years of electrical engineering experience.
Senior Level: 10+ years of experience and a current P.E. license (required for senior level).
Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering required.
FEMA Public Assistance experience preferred but not mandatory.
Current P.E. license is a plus (required for senior level).
Knowledge of or ability to learn FEMA systems such as Grants Manager and Grants Portal.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
Familiar with measuring tools and methods.
Able to learn to create FIRMETTEs or Flood Maps.
Must pass FEMA security training, Grants Manager training, and either PDMG or Site Inspector training.
Skilled in oral and written communication.
Able to follow directions and work under challenging conditions.
Travel expenses are paid.
Lodging provided for up to a year during deployment.
