Naval Architect (Entry-Level) Full Time

Summary:

  • Entry-Level Naval Architect position with Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG).
  • Seeking passionate individuals to join the team of professionals.
  • Opportunity to work on vessel arrangements, structural fire protection, and sea-keeping calculations.
  • Involvement in assessing vessel structures using first principal calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Collaborative role with naval architects, engineers, designers, and project managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop vessel arrangements, structural fire protection and egress plans.
  • Perform hydrostatic, hull resistance, and sea-keeping calculations.
  • Develop loading manuals, stability analysis, and tonnage calculations.
  • Assess vessel structures using first principal calculations, prescriptive regulatory rules, and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Prepare fatigue life estimations, structural repair plans, and forensic structural analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of engineering systems.
  • Oversee construction, installation, and commissioning of marine equipment and systems.
  • Conduct onsite inspections of marine vessels and offshore structures to identify and address technical issues.
  • Ensure adherence to USCG regulations and class society rules (ABS, SOLAS, MARPOL).
  • Develop contract technical specifications, purchase specifications, and test and trials memos.

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Naval Architecture or related field with internship experience in commercial vessel design, shipyard, or vessel operations.
  • Intent to pursue a Professional Engineering (PE) License, with FE exam completion expected.
  • Strong writing and communication skills to support design documents, client engagement, and regulatory reviews.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Rhino, Pipe-Flo, GHS, and Microsoft 365.
