Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership for teams building new features and enhance existing software, tools, and experiences.
- Architect & lead efforts to design and build new APIs, web services, and microservices supporting AEM’s cloud-based & on-premise environmental monitoring & meteorological solutions.
- Use experience as a technical thought leader, passionate about improving the planet, and excited to support colleagues’ professional growth.
- Turn gathered environmental information into actionable intelligence for meteorologists to make predictions and keep people safe based on insights.
- Develop applications using C# with .NET & JavaScript, overcoming complex scaling issues.
- Work with other technology frameworks such as React.
- Lead designing, developing, and operating various portions of applications, while facilitating team meetings such as daily stand-ups, planning, and code reviews.
- Collaborate with iOS, Android, and Front End, Back End Engineers, and academic researchers to evaluate new tools, build prototypes, and extend capabilities of AEM’s sensor networks.
- Experiment, prototype, take risks, and document work while helping build new applications, web services, and tools.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 15+ years’ experience writing performant code in more than one compiled programming language (C++, C#, Java, or similar).
- 7+ years of experience developing and deploying web services on cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure) supporting at least 2,000 simultaneous users.
- Use of scripting languages such as PHP or Python for other tasks.
- Outstanding technical problem-solving, design, and coding skills.
- Experience in building secure software architectures as part of matrixed teams.
- Understanding of abstraction, separation of concerns, and when to apply them.
- Proficiency in various web presentation frameworks such as Angular, Bootstrap, jQuery, and React.
- Experience in designing automated test suites and refactoring applications to support testing.
- Regular use of tools like JMeter, Junit/NUnit, Selenium/TestComplete, and TestRails.
- Knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, HTTPS, HTTP/2, and WebSockets.
- Understanding of web authentication methods, including sessions, API tokens, OAuth/OIDC, and JWTs.
- Strong communication skills, both in-person and in writing, trusted as a go-to person for bouncing new ideas.
- Adaptability, collaboration, and a love for eliminating ambiguity.
