- We are seeking individuals with PhDs in the life or natural sciences to write accurate and detailed news articles and informational pages about new research, drug development, and other topics related to chronic and rare diseases.
- The ideal candidate is someone with a health/science/medical background (PhD in life sciences preferred) with a talent for writing about and explaining complex topics and conveying them accurately, simply, and clearly for a lay audience.
- This is a full-time remote position. U.S. candidates are preferred, but highly qualified international applicants may be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Write daily news articles for Bionews websites, with an emphasis on accuracy, clarity, and ease of understanding, on a wide variety of topics related to chronic and rare diseases.
- Research and write evergreen informational pages on a variety of topics.
- Work with editors to ensure stories are accurate and thorough.
- Be alert to potential problems with an assignment or its scope (i.e., evidence that a therapy assigned is no longer in active development), and address those concerns to editors.
- Conduct background research as needed to flesh out topics and provide links to reputable sources for additional information.
Requirements:
- PhD in life or natural science disciplines (cell biology, neurology, molecular biology, microbiology, biomedical sciences, immunology, etc.); master’s degree in these disciplines may be considered for talented candidates.
- Prior experience in health/medical/science writing for a lay audience (preferred).
- Excellent communication (written and oral American English).
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret scientific studies.
- Deadline-oriented with excellent time-management skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented, responsible, and reliable.
