Summary:
NBCUniversal is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to improve the developer experience by identifying and mitigating bottlenecks, creating self-service solutions, and providing education. This position involves collaborating with engineering teams and leadership to create innovative solutions that scale across the organization. The role fosters learning and supports a culture of accountability, transparency, and safety within the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Engineering Experience teams, the broader NBCU developer population, and engineering leadership to deliver services, tools, and processes for positive outcomes.
- Identify and mitigate bottlenecks while improving developer efficiency.
- Create documentation and self-service solutions to improve developer experience.
- Provide education and coaching to teams, helping them take full ownership of their software solutions.
- Use scientific, research-oriented methods to gather data, interpret it, and make informed decisions.
- Influence change by building trust and connecting with others through storytelling.
- Foster communities of learning and create safe spaces for developers to learn from each other.
- Deliver creative solutions that scale across the organization and improve developer experience.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) or equivalent experience.
- 12+ years working with software development teams (less experience may be acceptable based on degree or applicable experience).
- Expertise with DevOps culture and practices (e.g., continuous learning, improvement, feedback).
- Deep understanding of software development processes and methodologies.
- Strong grasp of survey design, data analysis, and visualization techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to influence and drive change through experimentation.
- Demonstrated empathy and understanding of others’ perspectives.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate complex dynamics and resolve conflicts.
