Software Engineer, Zero Trust Client (low-level OS, VPN, networking) Full Time

Responsibilities:

• Work on the Zero Trust desktop client, which protects corporate devices by securely sending traffic to Cloudflare’s global network.
• Use Rust alongside platform-native languages and APIs to implement high-performance networking code on multiple desktop platforms.
• Improve code quality, ensuring it is solid, testable, and well-documented.
• Apply your understanding of operating system concepts and networking protocols to the development process.
• Interact with other languages such as Swift, C#, C, and Python.
• Collaborate with product managers and teams to design and implement customer-impacting features.
• Work on problems that arise from the scale, quality, performance, and security requirements of Cloudflare’s product.

Requirements:

• Excellent programming skills and experience in writing high-quality, low-complexity code.
• Experience writing testable and thoroughly-tested code, utilizing dependency injection and appropriate abstractions.
• Familiarity with systems programming and core OS concepts of one or more desktop OSes (macOS, Windows, Linux).
• Proficient in lower-level languages such as Rust, C, C++.
• Comfortable writing multithreaded, asynchronous code.
• Experience debugging network-related problems on desktop devices.
• Understanding of how VPN technologies work and the trade-offs between privacy, security, and anonymity.
• Good understanding of security protocols and standards.
• Empathetic, proactive, and constructive communication skills (both verbal and written).
