Somali Interpreter – Contractor Part Time

Summary:

• Independent Contractor Interpreters facilitate interpretation sessions professionally and accurately for CyraCom clients.
• Interpreters must maintain a high level of skill, integrity, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

• Provide meaning-for-meaning interpreting.
• Adhere to interpreter protocols, procedures, and CyraCom’s confidentiality policies.
• Maintain professionalism and follow interpreter ethics.
• Continuously enhance vocabulary and knowledge of specialized subject areas (e.g., medical, legal, social services).

Requirements:

• Fluency in English and Somali.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Somali.
• Basic understanding of linguistics and different cultures.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations and remain calm in emergencies.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and exercise initiative within client standards.
• Proficiency with standard office equipment (telephones, computers, copiers, fax machines).

Required Qualifications:

• Interpretation experience in settings such as medical, court, or government interpretation.
  • OR Professional interpreter certification or training.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A two- to four-year degree in interpretation.
• Higher education taught in English or other working languages.
• Experience in healthcare or other relevant fields.

Benefits:

• Pay rate: $0.40/minute (varies by experience, dialects, and interpreter certifications).
• Independent Contractor position, not as an employee, functioning as a vendor providing services on an IRS Form 1099 basis.
