Responsibilities:
- Take a leadership role in shaping the design, development, and optimization of web and mobile applications.
- Work primarily with Ruby on Rails in a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
- Lead the creation of scalable, high-performance APIs and services while integrating with frontend components built with React and React Native.
- Drive system architecture improvements and performance enhancements through active leadership in code reviews and design sessions.
- Collaborate with Data teams to design data models meeting both operational and analytical requirements.
- Partner with the DevOps team to leverage AWS for simple and cost-effective cloud infrastructure deployment.
- Implement comprehensive monitoring and observability practices to guarantee high availability, security, and scalability of services.
- Own key initiatives, introduce new architectural patterns, and mentor engineers to elevate the team’s technical expertise.
- Work closely with product teams to define project timelines, influence technical direction, and guide the team through complex design and architectural decisions.
- Ensure the highest standards of code quality and continuous improvement in development practices.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in full-stack software development in a highly available and performant multi-service ecosystem.
- Professional experience as the most senior engineer on a mid-sized engineering team in a Ruby on Rails and React environment.
- Strong experience using Postgresql SQL and NoSQL features to build out flexible data models.
- Expertise in building software on top of core AWS Services (ECS, RDS, S3, etc.).
- Experience with technical leadership through code reviews and system design sessions.
- Good communication and collaboration skills to drive alignment and increase effectiveness across teams.
- Expertise in designing simple and supportable software with monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning.
- Enjoy mentoring engineers to build simple, scalable, and reusable software and impart best practices to the team.
- Passion for building great user experiences accessible to a wide variety of users.
