I’m writing this cover letter not in the hopes that I’ll say something incredibly poignant or craft a piece of script so mesmerising that you’ll have no choice but to hire me. It’s simply so you can know me and understand how I work.
I’ve been writing short stories and poetry since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I drafted up my first novel by the time I was 11, but it was strikingly similar to the Mary Kate and Ashley series I’d been reading so I had to scrap it. Now I write for a living and when not doing that, I write just for fun (and the general need to expel endless thoughts and doubts and theories about the universe).
I’m currently copywriting at FinTech unicorn Pleo on topics ranging from technology to finance and everything in between (which is actually quite a lot). I graduated with a Master’s fromUniversity of Limerick with a First Class Honours and achieved one of the highest grades in my year for my Master’s Thesis. But enough of the humble bragging.
I’m under no impression that this makes me inherently unique or that my talent is superior to that of any other applicants you may have heard from. I’m sure there are some excellently skilled writers on your books that could craft a novel standing on their heads- I can only do it balancing on one hand (joking, please don’t ask me to do that).
But what I think does set me apart is my willingness to never let go of something until it’s perfect. I was always the one in the group project spending six hours editing and formatting the language to make sure it flowed. I won’t put something down until I’m happy with it and I certainly won’t half-heart anything that I’ve committed to.
Regardless, I believe I’d make a valuable addition to any team of writers for the reasons laid out
above, and of course, and obviously, for my incredible sense of humour.
